LumiMol Lab logo Lumi·Mol Lab Luminescent Materials for Sustainability

The LumiMol Lab is part of the Department of Sustainable Development and Ecological Transition of UPO, located in Vercelli, Italy.

Our research is focused on the development of novel luminescent materials and the study of their structure/properties relationship, with particular attention to the understanding of photophysical phenomena. The materials of interest span from molecular complexes, extended molecular frameworks, lanthanide-doped nanoparticles, perovskites and hybrid organic-inorganic materials, with a highly interdisciplinary approach encompassing chemistry, physics, materials science and also circular economy.

Our goal is to propose step-change advancements in the development of new-generation photonic hi-tech devices such as telecom optical amplifiers, illumination systems, displays, chemical and temperature sensors, photonic and quantum computers for the Green&Digital Transition. Photonics, that is, the technology based on light, offers enormous opportunities for energy-saving and performance efficient devices, which are much sought-after in the framework of the European Green Deal. We aim at reaching new frontiers in the field, by constructing fully green hi-tech devices made out of secondary raw materials recovered from waste and eco-friendly materials, using a green chemistry approach.
